FAE (Made in Russia, America…)

Der Titel der Ausstellung FAE setzt sich aus den Initialen derzeitiger Lieblingstracks von Linda Weiss zusammen. Dies sind: Frontin’ (Pharrell Williams ft. Jay-Z), Allure (Jay-Z ft. Pharrell Williams) und Ego (Beyonce ft. Kanye West). Darin tauchen Begriffe, wie „im Offensivbereich“, „Begeisterung“und „künstlerisches Ego“ in ernsthafter bzw. ironisierender Weise auf. In Scotty Enterprises, Studio und Ausstellungsort zugleich, entwickelt sich etwas zwischen „Teamwork, Selbstorganisation und Anti-Vereinnahmungsfunktion“.

In Moskau setzt die Künstlerin fotoperformative shots während der Pussy Riot Prozesse, vormals „Made in America“, auf dem Dach der ehemaligen Schokoladenfabrik „Roter Oktober“ sowie der Hotelbar Ritz-Carlton nachts fort. 1867 wurde die erste, umbenannt nach der Oktoberrevolution in „Staatliche Süsswarenfabrik Nr. 1“, gegenüber dem Kreml erbaut. Es finden sich Stichpunkte von Orten und Begegnungen auf den Aufnahmen, die Linda Weiss in dieser Zeit notiert. Vervollständigt werden diese durch Verweise auf derzeitige Ereignisse in Moskau und Kiew.

Auf der Plattform des Dank – Haus – Chicago, am Lincoln Square gelegen, erstellt Linda Weiss „shot-by-shot“ ein foto-performatives Panorama. Sie verknüpft das entstandene fotografische Tableau mit dem Text „What I See in Lincoln´s Eyes“ von Barack Obama und den Lyrics des Tracks „New Slaves“ von Kanye West. Die Bezugspunkte sind die historische Matrix sowie „current policy issues“, die den Ort zur Metapher werden lassen.

Die Videoarbeit „Made in America (by any means necessary)“ orientiert sich in Länge und Inhalt an der Performance des Tracks „New Slaves“ des Hip-Hop „Gigantomanen“ Kanye West in der TV-Show Saturday Night Live am Geburtstag der Ikone Malcolm X. Fotos eines Stickers von Malcolm X am Fenster eines Drugstores, aufgenommen am Martin Luther
King Jr Boulevard New York, und verschiedene Versatzelemente werden „remixed“.

Linda Weiss studierte Freie Kunst in Nürnberg, Berlin (Freie Klasse, u.a. Madeleine Bernstorff, Harun Farocki und David Lamelas) und Leipzig. Ihr Studium beendete sie 2006 mit dem MFA an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. Linda Weiss war Stipendiatin in Artist in Residence Programmen, wie dem Multimedia Art Museum und House of Photography Moscow sowie dem International Studio & Curatorial Program NY.

The title „FAE“ is composed of the trackinitials from the music Linda Weiss loves to listen to at the moment. These are: Frontin´ (Pharrell Williams ft. Jay-Z), Allure (Jay-Z ft. Pharrell Williams) and Ego (Beyonce ft. Kanye West), which are used in a serious as well as in an ironic way. In Scotty Enterprises, a studio and exhibitionvenue at the same time, something is developed between „teamwork, self-organisation and Anti-Vereinnahmungsfunktion (anti-controllfunction).“

„Made in America“ before, she has decided to perform in the former chocolate factory „Red October“ as well as the hotelbar Ritz-Carlton at night. In 1867 the first factory was built facing the Kremlin. She connects her pictures with content words from encounters and sites. The work will be completed in relation to current events in Moscow and Kiev.

On the platform of Dank Haus Chicago, situated close to Lincoln´s Square, Linda Weiss takes a photo-performative shot-by-shot panorama. The photo-tableau is intercut with quotations from the text „What I See in Lincoln´s Eyes“ written by Barack Obama and the lyrics of the track „New Slaves“ produced and performed by Kanye West. She uses the historical matrix in relation to current policy issues as a metaphor for the asserted audacity of hope.

The videopiece „Made in America (by any means necessary)“ is related to the track „New Slaves“ which was released in the tv-show Saturday Night Live by „megalomaniac“ Kanye West performed on Malcolm X’s birthday. Photographs of a sticker from Malcolm X on a drugstore window, shot on Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, New York, will be „remixed“.
