Color Island – Die Insel spielt einerseits auf den Mythos vom verborgenen Garten und einem begehrten Inselparadies an, andererseits galten Inseln von jeher als geheimnisvolle, unerklärliche kleine Biotope und sogar Heimstätte grässlicher Ungeheuer. Eine Insel kann wie ein kleiner Schutzraum sein, in dem alles möglich scheint Diese ambivalenten Assoziationen lassen sich sowohl mit Bettina Weiß` Herangehensweise der künstlerischen Arbeit vergleichen, als auch mit der möglichen Wirkung des Ergebnisses.
Color Island steht für einen Ort, aus dem man schöpfen kann & muss, aber auch ein Synonym für Zustände beim Herstellen der Bilder,like „guided by voices“. Eine Insel der Farben kann im Kopf sein – auf dem Bildträger oder auch im Auge des Betrachters. Über die Farbe geht alles, der Bildträger als eine Möglichkeit Räume, Flächen farblich zu zerteilen. Aber: rein konzeptionell ist hier gar nichts, auch wenn es erstmal so erscheint.
Quer durch die Jahrzehnte zieht sich die Spur der abstrakten geometrischen Malerei – Konstruktivismus, Suprematismus, Minimalismus, Pop- Art, Op-Art… 2014 schöpft Bettina Weiß intuitiv aus diesem Fundus und erlaubt sich Variationen von nie gemachten Bildern der letzten 100 Jahre.

Painted on wood, canvas and paper, her paintings of intense colour will be shown from March 8 until April 5 at Oranienburger Strasse 46 near Moritzplatz.
Color Island – On the one hand, island playfully suggests the myth of the lost garden and the yearning for an island paradise. On the other hand an island can also be seen as a mysterious biotope and sometimes home to terrible creatures. It can be a small sheltered place where everything seems possible. These ambivalent associations not only correspond with Bettina Weiss’ approach to her work, but also with the appeal of the artistic effect.
Color Island stands for a place on which one can and must draw upon, but also for a synonym of the conditions in which the the paintings develop, like „guided by voices“. An island of colour can be in the mind, on the artistic medium or simply in the eye of the beholder. The canvas is a means of disaggregating space using colour. But: there is nothing simply conceptual here, even though it may seem so at first. Abstract geometric painting – Contstructivism, Suprematism, Minimalism, Pop-Art, Op-Art have left a long trail throughout the times. Bettina Weiß draws upon this creative stock intuitively and shows variations of never painted paintings of the last 100 years.
